All is calm, all is clear, all is quiet.
And the faint hum of Jingle Bells on the radio...
As I sit by the window and look to the sky,
I wish that a shooting star by me will fly.
And I think about what I would wish for,
If I could only have one dream come true...
I'd care not for gold, frankincense or for myrrh
If I could have one treasured moment with you.
I'm wishing you a holy, holy, holy night.
I wish you were within arm's reach,
So I could squeeze you tight,
But I will keep the home fires burning
And a candle burning bright.
I'm wishing you a holy night.
The air is hot, the moon is high,
But there's light in the sky.
The cicada's summer song brings a tear to my eye,
As I dream of the cold winter air on my skin
And of sugarplum fairies*** dancing over the hills
behind my parents house under Northern lights.
And here, I am melting under Southern skies.
And because I am far from the ones that I love,
I am sending a prayer to the Heavens above.
I am wishing you a holy, holy, holy night........
I miss the holly and the ivy and the mistletoe kisses;
the cards of desert mangers; Santa Clause and his missus;
the twinkle of fairylights and their frosty glow;
the hope that this year will be the one that it snows!
But here, I'm surrounded by cockatoos calling,
the melodies of magpies and the kookaburras laughing,
And though I'm in summer, with fun, festive cheer,
My heart it is longing for those I hold dear.
I am wishing you a holy, holy, holy night........
*** Only after writing the lyrics did I find out that the sugarplum fairies are not the sweet sounding friends that their name suggests! I would just like to say that all otherworldly beings spotted on the hills of Burgatia have only ever been of the kindest variety! :0)
